Agnes married Sir Alexander de Cheney in 1268 restoring the lines of descent to the Cheney
name. Sir Alexander is considered to be descendant of Ralf de Chesnay even though his ancestry
is only traced Back as far as Alexander de Cheney a crusader who fought under King Richard
Coer de Lion ( Richard the Lionhearted) in 1190. Sir Alexander adopted the de Saye family Arms of "Quarterly Or and Gules". which he modified by a label Argent. His immediate descendents did not bear these arms. Later generations of Cheney s, notably those of Fenn Ditton (Cambridge) and Boston (Lincolnshire) did bear Sir Alexander's arms. Sir Alexander served in Ireland, during the conquest of Wales in 1280-1282 with his Father-in-law, Sir William de Saye and later in Gascony under King Edward I. Sir Alexander and Agnes had a Son named William. |
