Emile contracted LaGrippe ( this was during the time of the nationwide influenza epidemic)
which turned to Pneumonia. His wife also was ill with the flu (LaGrippe) so they did not tell
her immediately of her husbands death. Mr Moll lived in Sebastopol 24 years. His ranch of
25 acres was opposite the Sebastopol Cemetery. He also had a grocery store on Santa Rosa Avenue.
Mr Moll came to the USA when he was in his 20's settled in St Paul, MN. He married Madeline
Shirmer, also an Alsace, France native. In 1890's they moved to Santa Rosa then bought a farm
in Sebastopol. They called it the "Sleepy Hollow". The Sabastopol times reported in 1895 that
Mr. Moll dried five tons of blackberries. They sold this property in 1910, lived in San Francisco
for a few months then moved back to Sonoma County buying a home in Sebastopol's Brittian Addition.
( see copy of page from "Sebastopol, CA History, Homes & People 1855-1920" by Evelyn S. McClure.
The Moll's had 8 children. The Moll home was on Jesse Street. The address numbering system
changed over the years. One of the daughter married Thomas Tuomey, Thomas was the brother
to Honoria Tuomey who wrote 2 volumes published in 1926 of the History of Sonoma Co.CA. It
appears that the Moll store moved to Bodega Ave. Which is on the same street as Santa Rosa
Ave. only it changes names west of Main Street and becomes Bodega Highway and runs to Freestone,
Bodega and Bodega Bay. See more info in the Moll book. Polk City directory 1880-1881 Emile worked at a saloon located at 126 Cedar and lived at 1 1/2 Wabasha. Polk City directory 1884-1885 Emile worked at a saloon 445 Wabasha lived at 9th and ith.. Research done by Sharon Wolf. |
