Last updated July 14, 2014| John Thornton a native of Marengo-ite who left here 60 years ago when 5 years of age, was in town monday looking up some old the older residents in an effort to locate the old family home. This he was unable to do because of the years that have elapsed and the changes that have been wrought in More than a half a century. the Thornton family moved to Millerburg and when about 16 John Thornton drove the old Star Mail route between there and Marengo. It was the same job held later by Cal Morey and Sam Wyant. Later he worked on a farm near Des Moines-on the site now occupied by Fort Des Moines. He now lives in Cedar Rapids, 1934 ( This was article from a paper.) |
