From the funeral program: Remembering the life of... Berneice (Mrs. Raymond) Aschnewitz, 79, a resident of Fergus Falls, died peaceftilly, Friday evening, November 15, 2002, surrounded by her loving family at the Lake Region Hospital. Berneice was born to Caroline (Herting) and Frank Ohman on March 4, 1923. She graduated from Pelican Rapids High School in 1940. On May 7, 1944, she was united in marriage to Raymond Aschnewitz of Vergas. While Raymond was in the Navy, Berneice worked at Manchester’s in Fargo, ND. In 1949 they moved to Barney, ND and resided there until they moved to Friberg Township in 1957. In May of 2000, they moved to Fergus Falls into a home built by her family. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Friberg Township. She spent many years teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She also was very active in the church Ladies Aid and Women’s Missionary League. During the summer, Berneice would spend countless hours working in her garden. She would preserve enough fruits and vegetables from that garden to share with the many people who graced her table. Her flower gardens were also very beautiful and when the grand out on the weekend, she would always make sure to send home a rose. Grandma’s work always came second to her children and grandchildren. The many hours spent fishing, sporting her pompom baseball cap, is a special memory held by each of them. Her winter months were spent baking all kinds of goodies, her famous Sally Ann cookies quickly became the grandchildren’s favorite. She also loved entertaining family and friends, playing countless hours of cards and taking great pride in watching whatever sport, school or church activity in which her children or grandchildren participated. Her enthusiasm and support will be sorely missed. Berneice is survived by her husband, Raymond; her children, Dale (Sandy) of Big Lake, Kay (Greg) Wacek of Plymouth, Kevin (Brenda) of Dent, Jeff (Diane) of Fergus Falls and Mark of Fergus Falls; 15 grandchildren, Ray, Mart, Kristy, Jay, Mike, Aimee, Nicole, Britt, Amanda, Brad, Stacie, Carl, Sam, Megan and Tara. She also leaves behind three sisters, Doraine Boushley of Alexandria, Marlys (Wilbur) Hegerle of Fergus Falls and Margaret Mayfield of Detroit Lakes along with many devoted relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her daughters, Judy and LaDonna; her son, Wayne; a brother, Fernard and her parents. Blessed be the memory of Berneice Aschnewitz |
